Azure’s Memberships Director, Gavin Dickinson took a part in a Good Friday Night Walk, a fundraising event in aid of Puttinu Cares. The walk started at 2am from the Sanctuary of Our Lady in Mellieha and ended at the Nativity of the Virgin Mary Church in Senglea. In total, the walk was around 30 kilometres long.
It wasn’t actually Gavin’s idea to join such an event, but his wife’s, as she wanted to do something different for charity. At first, he was a little sceptical about walking for so many hours through the Maltese roads in the middle of the night, but when he understood that this walk was for charity, and that thousands of people would be participating, he quickly changed his mind, and walked alongside his wife, Alexandra through to the finish line. It took them 4,5 hours to successfully complete the walk and as a token of appreciation they were presented with a certificate of participation.
Gavin described it as quite a unique experience, walking across Malta by moonlight in the company of a positive and enthusiastic crowd. I felt very good being part of this. Gavin would truly recommend this event to his friends, as he believes that it is something everyone should try because it is physically challenging, great exercise, and well organised with refreshments on the way and is done for a good cause.
Gavin’s tips for the walk: Through my personal experience, having suffered a few blisters, make sure you have good trainers and take a good buddy with you, otherwise those 30 kilometres might be pretty boring!
