Dawn Burgess originally joined Azure when it was still based at the Coastline Hotel (now Salini Resort), where she worked in the Telemarketing Department. She returned to Azure in February 2016 after doing some travelling, starting out in Member Services on the main switchboard and moving to the Member Services Reservations Team a year later.
This week Dawn did something wonderful. She has been growing her hair long for about four years, and has been contemplating the idea of wearing it shorter for a while, but could never muster enough courage to actually do it.
This time it was different. She went ahead and got a short bob cut for a remarkable reason: to donate her hair to Puttinu Cares and help make wigs for children who have lost their own as a side effect of cancer.
Set up in 2002, this local charity was born from an idea and a desire to offer a holistic care approach to families with children who are battling cancer. Dawn also wanted to raise funds for Puttinu Cares, and with some help from the Marketing department, she organised a live auction inside the Azure Vacation Experience Centre. The charity auction led up to the haircut moment, with the person donating the most money handed a pair of scissors to seal the deal!
So how was Dawn feeling before the chop? “I was very nervous and wanted to change the time of the haircut a hundred times a day!”
Amid all the excitement and anticipation, Dawn managed to collect a total of € 331.65 thanks to her colleagues, family and friends’ contributions. The lucky ‘haircut winner’ was Alex Collyer from the Sales department, and we have to say he did a pretty great job on two levels: giving Dawn the highest donation as well as a pretty new hairdo!
A big thank you also goes to Marion from the salon at Mr James International, who offered to trim and tidy up Dawn’s haircut for free. Doesn’t Dawn look gorgeous with her brand-new look?
Would she do it again, we wondered? “Most definitely. The feeling of knowing that I am helping in any way is just amazing and totally worth it. I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who donated. You are all stars!”
